Ericka Curls Bartling

Ms. Curls Bartling works with a variety of clients – founders and creators of new businesses, principals and directors of small businesses and nonprofits, project managers, in-house counsel and officers of large corporations – to facilitate strategies and structure, and then draft and negotiate, a wide variety of business initiatives, strategic alliances, commercial contracts and business arrangements, of varying degrees of complexity. In addition, she serves as as co-bond, disclosure and underwriters’ counsel in the issuance of municipal bonds, commercial paper, and tax and revenue anticipation notes.

Ms. Curls Bartling is a graduate of Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois, 1991, and of Washington University School of Law, St. Louis, Missouri, 1994.

Ms. Curls Bartling’s practice focuses on the general representation of business entities, counseling both emerging and established companies, municipalities, governmental entities and non-profits, on a broad range of legal issues relating to business and project structuring, procurement and supply, equity and debt financing, licensing, consulting and outsourcing, mergers and acquisitions, business collaborations and strategic alliances. She has significant and broad experience in the structuring, negotiation and preparation of a variety of commercial contracts and business agreements of various degrees of complexity.

In addition, Ms. Curls Bartling has a substantial public finance practice, serving as bond, co-bond, disclosure and underwriter’s counsel in both tax-exempt and taxable municipal finance transactions. She has considerable experience reviewing, analyzing and drafting legal documentation (e.g., indentures of trust, escrow agreements, bond purchase agreements, pledge and assignment agreements, loan agreements and regulatory agreements); preparing official statements and closing documents; and providing advice and guidance related to disclosure and continuing disclosure matters.

Prior to private practice in California, Ms. Curls Bartling was an attorney for the National Labor Relations Board in Missouri. She later worked as General Counsel for an asset management firm in San Francisco, where she reviewed all business, vendor and marketing contracts as well as investment advisor activities for compliance with applicable state and federal securities regulations.
